My name is Lee Shields (The Shield 🛡️) from County Antrim, and at just 11 years old, I already made a splash in the darts world! My Grandad handed me his spot in the Antrim Dart League, and I quickly mastered the Oche, winning our local Boxing Day tournament as the youngest player ever. In January 2025, I joined Carrickfergus Dart Academy. Over 10 intense events, I battled against talented players from all across Northern Ireland—many older than me—and finished in the top four, earning my ticket to the 2025 JDC World Championships.
This achievement reflects my dedication and relentless hard work in the Carrickfergus Junior Darts Academy and the youth darts scene overallDartster clinching my first final victory last Boxing Day at my local team venue, I’ve gone on to compete in numerous tournaments across Northern Ireland. Participating in the ADC, I’ve reached several finals and advanced to semifinals and quarter-finals. Locally, I play weekly for the Muckybirds Cricket Club Dart Team in the Antrim League and have also signed up with the Whiteabbey Masonic Dart Club in the Belfast League, where I aim to compete at least once a week.
Plus, I proudly represent County Area Five, going head-to-head with some of the best darts players around. I also launched my own ADC Darts Vault at Antrim Sports Club, which has been an incredible experience.
Additionally, I’ve teamed up with Ruthless Darts Co., giving me the chance to play alongside teammates from the Northern Ireland squad. It has been a real privilege to witness the rise of this very special talent. He arrived at the Carrickfergus Junior Darts Academy in early 2025. At that point he was just like any other young player, but in early March 2025 I saw Lee find his feet and with it his darts. He reached the final of the Preston Fowles Memorial Shield, something no-one that age had ever done before.
As the year went on his started to work his way up the JDC Northern Ireland rankings and in June he secured his place on the Northern Ireland World Cup Team for Gibraltar. Since then nothing has stood in his way, Vault wins, NIDO victories, Killarney youth champion.
The next few months will see Lee represent Northern Ireland in Gibraltar, compete at the JDC World championships and 2026 will see Lee compete in the inaugural Winmau Darts Youth Masters event. His calmness on and off the oche is well above that of his young age. He took my advice about concentrating on his weekly routine and with this new found confidence he has achieved his Black grading. I know he will continue to produce very special moments and I want to wish him all the very best for the upcoming events. I will support him in anyway I can.
